The Synergy 4b is a great update of our top selling Synergy 4 tuning module for non-common rail engines.
Switchable hot start helper with adjuster so you can alter the extra fuel provided during the first 20seconds of cranking.
Selectable and adjustable off boost fuel enrichment. This gives some extra fuel before the boost activated fuelling starts, to aid with sluggish low rpm performance due to a worn injection pump.
Socket for optional illuminated dash push button which gives extra power for overtaking or towing uphill.
The right hand mode control has 8 settings arrange as shown below. Settings start again at 0 when turned past 9. 8 & 9 are the same as 0 and 1.
0 switches on the box at around 10psi
1 switches on the box at about 6psi
2 switches on the box at about 3psi
3 switches on the box at around 10psi + off boost enrichment*
4 switches on the box at about 6psi + off boost enrichment*
5 switches on the box at about 3psi + off boost enrichment*
6 - same as 1 but with 20seconds of extra fuel to aid hot starting no off boost enrichment.
7 – same as 2 but with 20seconds of extra fuel to aid hot starting no off boost enrichment
For settings 3,4 and 5, the main fuelling is boost pressure activated like settings 0,1,2 BUT off boost there is extra fuel provided to improve the performance if the injection pump output is weak at low rpm causing very sluggish pulling away. The extra fuel will also usually help with poor hot starting.
* This extra fuel is adjustable using the middle HSF control. A setting between fully left and midway should suffice or the idle will become unstable.
Ideally the box should be switching on at as low a boost as possible so it is working to improve the performance and reduce mpg. However due to variations in map sensors, if the sensitivity is too high the box may not switch off on the overrun and when idling (please note there is a 5second delay before the box switches off to prevent jerking at the boost pressure threshold). If this occurs use the next numerically lower setting.
The Middle control labelled HSF on the label, adjusts the amount of extra fuel provided during the first 20seconds of cranking when the hot start feature is enabled (settings 6 and 7) This will require trial and error to find the best setting appropriate for your injection pump. Turn clockwise to increase the fuel. Do not force the screw past the end stops.
For settings 3,4,5 it adjusts the off boost fuelling – fully left to midway (slot vertical) is usually adequate, too high will produce unstable idling.
The Left hand control labelled FUEL, adjusts the fuelling/power for day to day usage one the boost threshold has been reached. Turn clockwise to increase fuelling and hence torque and bhp. Do not force the screw past the end stops.
When the optional dash pushbutton switch is plugged in, this gives extra fuel when pushed in and the led is lit. You might need to use a slightly lower setting of the left hand control if the extra torque is more than you want.
OPTIONAL DASH SWITCH. Lift off the accelerator momentarily before pushing or releasing the button. The extra fuel is not adjustable so you may need to reduce the setting of the main fuel screw if the increase is more than you need. For best mpg, leave the button out most of the time.

Some companies still want £350-400 for their VP tuning box, but they don't work as well as our SUPERB 2 channel one which is half the price.
There is one cable that plugs into the map (or maf) sensor and then, depending on the make and model a second cable for the injection pump or two wires to hard wire where we cannot get the pump connectors. (300tdi & P38, Rover 200/400/600sdi)

The unit uses the same single chip microcontroller used in the Synergy 1R but in a different configuration and using 2 channels. One to process the map or maf signal and one to control the injection pump. Unlike other companies products, we don't just use the map or maf signal to activate the box, but also tweak the signal for even better performance where possible.

Our new Synergy 4B includes additonal hardware and firmware which gives the engine extra fuel for 20seconds after turning on the ignition to enable the engine to start. NO ADDITIONAL CONNECTIONS ARE NEEDED eg to the coolant temp sensor and nor any ecu reprogramming.
Instructions are included but some skill is required to connect the injection pump wires, preferably by soldering on some vehicles. IT REALLY IS WORTH THE EFFORT. We've done a short video showing how the unit connects to the ecu on the RangeRover P38 here
The Audi, Seat, Skoda,Vw and Volvo versions come with either an 8 or 10pin injection pump connector so please check which you need before ordering. The connector can be found in the cable coming from the injection pump and is the size of a pack of 20 cigs with either two rows of 4 or 5 pins. On the Transporter, you need to remove the engine under tray to get to it.
On the other vehicles, two short wires with a 2pin plug have to be manually connected to the wiring loom either near the injection pump or ecu. This is not difficult if a bit fiddly so take your time. The instructions explain which wires to connect to. Once you have done this, the VP box just plugs in to this plug and to the map sensor and is therefore equally easy to disconnect (no need to disconnect the soldered wires).

"In a nutshell..... it works! For the time being, I've settled on Air: #7 Fuel: approx 3/4 to 4/5. My aftermarket boost gauge shows a max of
1.15 bar which I believe is just under 17 psi. So I haven't altered the pushrod. (it's awkward anyway on a 300 Tdi, it's below, not on top like a 200).
Doesn't smoke around town or under moderate accelaration but at full throttle and or kickdown, it does, for the first time in it's life. This has a profound effect on it power delivery! Having said that, the more we drove it ( I picked up a friend from work, also a truck driver and former Disco owner) the less it appeared to smoke." The initial smoke would be soot being blasted out of the silencers by the much greater airflow - this is a common occurence when you tune a vehicle. Ron
